Charles Taylor Saxon

July 20, 1920 — February 9, 2006

Born in Cleveland, Texas on July 20, 1920, to Nathan Carney and Winnie Mae Taylor Saxon. He attended school in Cleveland and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1936. After graduation he attended College of Marshall, now known as East Texas Baptist University. Upon returning home he had a string of odd jobs before volunteering for the United States Navy in March 1941. After basic training, he was sent to Aviation Metalsmith School in Chicago. He was then stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, he arrived for duty on December 1, 1941, just days before the Japanese attack. He had a 6 year hitch in the Navy, upon discharge he went to work at Gulf Oil Refinery. On April 1, 1947 he met his future wife, Juanita Borders. They married on September 12, 1947 and were married for 58 years. They then went on to have 3 children. In 1956, he and his family moved from Port Arthur to Vidor. He was a charter member of Vidor Evening Optimist Club and was appointed to be the 2nd President of the club. As president, he initiated the practice of displaying American Flags in front of businesses on patriotic holidays. He was also a key partner in building the boy’s baseball park on operator’s Lane. He retired from Gulf Oil Refinery in 1981 after 35 years. After retirement he and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling to various destinations. He also enjoyed fishing and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jack Saxon and his wife, Juanita Borders Saxon. He is survived by his son, Michael Taylor Saxon of Leander, TX and 2 daughters, Suzy Saxon Murphy of Vidor and Sandy Saxon Chaline of Wiergate, TX. Also by a sister, Delorse Campbell of Kountze, TX, 4 grandchildren, Stacy Manas of Cedar Park, TX, Kelli Murphy Gossett of Vidor, TX, Charles “Taylor” Saxon II of Pflugerville, TX, and Robbi Murphy Cain also of Vidor. And 5 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2006 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with Visitation at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Memorial Funeral Home.
