Dora Dorest Lyle

August 8, 1951 — March 19, 2022

Dora Dorest Lyle passed from this life to her home in Heaven on March 19th, 2022 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas. Dora was born in Alpine, Texas on August 8th, 1951. Her mother was Ruby Nell Hannah, and her father was Frank Elbert Hannah Senior, both of Jack County, Texas. Dora attended school in Vidor, Texas, and was a proud member of the Class of 1970. She was a member of “The Band of Bands” and a baton twirler for the VHS Marching Band. After marriage and with two small children, she decided to pursue a dream and obtained an A.D. RN from Lamar University. She loved nursing and was always focused to be the best possible patient advocate. Dora lived and practiced her nursing in Southern California for nine years, at the conclusion of which she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She survived, but with declining health, for the next 24 years. Dora subsequently lived in Beaumont, Texas for a few years, then five years in Perrysburg, Ohio, followed by five years in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania before retiring to Cypress, Texas. Dora was raised in the Christian Church, and she and her family were subsequently members of several Baptist Churches as they followed careers from place to place. As a young lady, she professed her faith and was a baptized child of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her hobby interests changed over time, but whether she was sewing clothing or making Christmas ornaments, her creative side blossomed, and she made very tasteful items. She enjoyed decorating her home for every season, particularly Christmas and Easter. She encouraged her children to be involved in healthy social activities and sports and made certain the meals she prepared were consistent with her training in nutrition. She had a passion for baking and making holiday treats to give away to friends and family. Dora is survived by her husband of nearly 51 years, W. Roger Lyle, her daughter Laura Ann Lyle, son-in-law Robert Lovitt, grandchildren Roger and Ruby Lovitt; Brothers Frank Hannah Junior and Alden Hannah, her sister Donna Rash; and nieces Karla Taylor, Melissa Bailey, Erika Hunter; and nephews Brian Leatherwood, Derrick Hannah, and Chip Hannah. Dora was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ruby Hannah, her father-in-law Wallace Lyle, and her son Daniel Brandon Lyle. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Serices will be held Saturday, March 26th, 2022 with a visitation beginning at 12:00 PM and the funeral beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment to follow at Restlawm Memorial Park.
