Geneva Maxine Solly

January 2, 1933 — June 7, 2020

Geneva Maxine Solly (Nan-NanNan) was born in Maysville, Oklahoma on January 2nd, 1933 to Raymond and Ruth Caler. She passed away on June 7, 2020 at Rosewood Living Center in Jasper, Texas.
At 16 she met Dwain while living in California with her family, he was in the service at Edwards Air Force Base. They decided to go to Vegas and get married. Her parents, sister Helen and husband Ray went with them. After having Shirley and Dwain Jr., they hopped in their car and decided Texas was where they needed to be (Dwain was from Texas).
Nan loved her ice cream, cokes and QVC, they all came daily. If you wanted to find her you needed to look behind the sewing machine first. She was usually sewing for one of her 3 girls. If not there you may find her on a tractor bailing hay in the fields, milking a cow, working in the garden, wringing a chickens neck for tonights dinner, painting the house or just painting canvas. There was always work to do on a farm and she didn't mind doing what needed to be done after her 2 mile walk.
Poppa and Nan spent many of their retired years together traveling, fishing at Lake Sam Rayburn and enjoying their grandkids and great grandkids.
Wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was a devoted Christian and attended church at Pine Forest Baptist Church in Vidor. She was preceded in death by her husband Dwain of 58 years, son Dwain Jr., daughter Carrie Solly Rees, sister Helen Smith and her parents.
Nan is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Croak and husband Pete, Linda Safer-Meche and husband Billy. Eight grandchildren, Peter Croak and wife Staci, Kevin Croak, Keeli Safer-Anderson and husband Glenn, Bradley Safer and wife Ashley, Aaron Safer, Eric Rees and wife Hannah, Cody Rees and wife Summer, Kara Rees Anderson and husband Olie. Fourteen great grandchildren, Logan Safer, Kadin Croak, Lakyn Croak, Cade Safer, Chloe Anderson, Blake (Bates) Safer, and Ally Anderson, Rylee Rees, Olan Anderson, Rees Anderson, Leo Anderson, Paige Rees, Ally Rees, and Gary Rees. Sister Lavetta Hill, brother Clay Caler both in California and sister-in-law Laudie Lampin of Jasper, her best bud in assisted living.
Our family would like to thank all the workers, (our friends) at Rosewood 1 and Rosewood 2 of Jasper for the love, hugs and time they spent with Ms Maxine. She loved you all and never let you leave her room without a hug and an "I love you". You are all angels on earth.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2020 (the date of Dwain and Maxine's wedding anniversary) at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor on Highway 12. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a service at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
