Harold Leslie Sorter

Harold Leslie Sorter, born February 20, 1927 - died February 1, 2006 at his residence in Duncan Woods. He was a graduate of Orangefield High School in 1944. Leslie served his country in The U.S. Army during WW II, were he was stationed in occupied Japan. He was a Rigger for Dupont in Orange for 37 years, a Mule Guide at the Grand Canyon, a Bulldogger and a Rodeo Clown for local rodeos. Leslie loved to play the fiddle and was in many bands. He also loved to garden, hunt, fish and be outdoors. He was a life long member of Pecan Acres Baptist Church. He was a member of the Scottish Rites, Shriners and a Past Master for Bridge City Masonic Lodge #1345. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Pecan Acres Baptist Church in Vidor, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Stephenson Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m Friday, February 3, 2006 at Pecan Acres Baptist Church. Leslie was preceded in death by his daughter Leslie Lavern Cobb and son in law Lanis Ray Cobb, sister: Peggy Welborn. He is survived by his campion and life long friend Rosa Mae Beniot, sons: Jimmy shaw and his wife Tanya, Gaston “Pete” and his wife Pam all of Hemphill, TX, Joe Bob and his wife Lorena of Orangefield, TX, sister: Clara Anderson of Duncan Woods, TX, grandchildren: Amber Kensel and her husband William, Kayla Sorter, Heather Sorter, Brandi Reynolds and her husband Jon, Telia Sorter, Judy McMahon, Mandy Jordan, Leslie Sorter, 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, Leslie was loved by all and missed by many. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Pecan Acres Baptist Church Building Fund, American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
