Joe Haeggquist

April 23, 1981 — June 5, 2020

Joe Haeggquist, 39, of Vidor, TX died Friday, June 5th, 2020 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, TX. A native of Fort Smith, AR he was a longtime resident of Vidor and a 1999 graduate of Vidor High School. Joe earned his Bachelors of Science degree from Lamar University. He was also a graduate of St. Mary's University earning his Doctorate of Jurisprudence and achieving the Order of Barristers. Joe was a four year letterman at Lamar University in indoor and outdoor track and cross country. Joe was a lifetime athlete. He competed in triathlons, iron man competitions and bike endurance racing. He also competed in international competitions. In 2003 he participated as an Athlete in Action missionary in Moscow, Russia. In 2008 he organized and participated in raising cancer awareness by cycling 3300 miles across the United States in 33 days. In 2009 he ran a marathon a day for 30 days to raise money and awareness for diabetes research. In March of 2010 Joe led a team to Haiti after a devastating earthquake to minister to those in need. In 2011 he participated on a legal team in Warsaw, Poland in an international mediation competition. Joe spent his lifetime building relationships and giving himself to others. He was a professed Christian and was called home all too soon. Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Pecan Acres Baptist Church with his funeral service at 4:00 p.m.. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. Joe is survived by 1 daughter; Henrietta Haeggquist, 1 son; Campbell Haeggquist, parents; Brad and Shellie Haeggquist, 1 sister; Tracy Maines and her husband Travis, 2 brothers; Andy Haeggquist and his wife Chelsea and Bradley Haeggquist and his wife Lacey all of Vidor. He is also survived by his grandfather; Joseph Haeggquist of Cookson, OK, 3 nieces; Nyah, Sage, and Sianna, along with 3 nephews; Drew, Devan and Spencer. Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents; Bert and Betty Spencer and grandmother; Sharon Haeggquist. Arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.
