Joyce Drake Lucas

Joyce D. Lucas, 88 of Vidor died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Vidor Manor Nursing Home of Vidor where she had been a resident for four months. She was born May 20, 1921 in Ranger, Texas, the fifth child of Virgil Artemis Drake and Mollie Dora Brittian Drake. A former resident of Overton, she previously worked as the Society Editor of The Overton Press and had lived in Southeast Texas about two years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Overton.
Joyce is survived by two daughters, Janice Lucas Timmons of Longview; and Sheila Lucas Friedeck and her husband, Roger, of Vidor; two grandchildren, Brooke Friedeck of Vidor, and Scott Friedeck of Melbourne, Australia; one brother Ben Drake and his wife, Bea, of Fort Worth; two sisters-in-law, Florine Drake of Whitesboro and Virginia Drake of Midland. One sister, Ina Drake; and five brothers, Earl, Jack, Berry, Leroy, and Arthur Drake, preceeded her in death.
The family will conduct a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Eastland City Cemetery in Eastland, TX., under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, followed by a memorial service to be scheduled later in Overton, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice.
