Leon L. Broom, 89, of Vidor died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home. A native of Pineland, TX., he was active in track and field and basketball in his younger days. He spent 2 years in the CCC in artillery and infantry. Moving to Vidor in 1942, he met and married the love of his life Mary Jane Wyatt. He worked in the shipyard and oilfields before his employment with Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He was a dedicated and loyal employee for 34 years. Upon his retirement they made many trips to Branson, MO. Then he entered the workforce again and spent 16 years with Woods Super Market as back door man. Mr. Broom was a 50 year member of the Vidor Masonic Lodge # 1286 and a deacon at Pine Forest Baptist Church for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnny and Sallie Low Broom, wife Mary Jane Wyatt Broom, daughter Jerre Cochran, brothers George E. Broom and John W. Broom. He is survived by a daughter Beverly Hall of Vidor, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Pine Forest Baptist Church of Vidor, 4800 N.
