Lois Louise Blanchette Labrie

February 19, 1949 — September 5, 2023

Lois Louise Blanchette LaBrie, of Vidor, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 5th 2023 at the age of 74. Lois was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on February 19, 1949 to George and Flora Belle Blanchette. Lois was the daughter of a decorated United States Marine Reserve combat veteran who fought in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Wounded during battle, CPL. George Blanchette was awarded the Purple Heart, a solemn distinction which means that a service member has greatly sacrificed himself while in the line of duty. Lois was just 16 years old when she lost her war hero father, but she lived by the example he set for her of service to others, and always going the extra distance. Lois was a woman of many talents. An amazing cook, she sometimes wished she had gone to culinary school. She made many a seven course meal, even for guests or friends who were just passing through, as long as they could stop and eat. Though she could have easily succeeded in the catering business, Lois chose instead to be a nurse. She went to school in her 30s, earning her R.N. degree from Lamar University in 1989. Her concern and care for others made the profession of nursing a perfect fit. Her love of music, especially Cajun French music, often had her dancing with all “her little chickens”, when holidays and other occasions brought her girls and their children together with her all in one place. Her grandbabies were the biggest joy of her life. She glowed with pure love while in their presence, always giving them the special care that only a grandmother can give. Lois loved dogs almost as much as much as she loved her humans. Her love of animals was a hallmark of her personality. She even raised an abandoned infant raccoon named Racky, caring for him for several years. Lois adored Christmas and everything to do with Christmas. She was a fan of Snoopy and Charlie Brown, which fit her perfectly as the selfless, generous, loving person she was. If she loved you, there was nothing she wouldn't do for you. If it took her last dollar to feed someone, she gave it. She had a servant’s heart. She was patient, never rushing things along because she had the wisdom to know, “this is the good stuff”. She knew that the little things were actually the big things, and it didn't take much to make her happy. Going to ballgames, birthday parties, special occasions, or just for no reason at all, to have her family and grandkids around was more than she could ask for. Beautiful both inside & out her whole life, with a flair for style that could be seen in her extensive collection of shoes and clothes, she had a dynamic personality and great sense of humor to go with it all. A favorite memory of ours will be her spontaneous impersonations of Xena, Warrior Princess. We will forever remember her this way, our comical, honest, caring, Memaw, and nurturing mother, and friend. She was also one of the most forgiving women there ever was. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, James “Jimmy” LaBrie; daughters, Michelle Fawcett (Randy) of Ragley, LA, Tammy Dickerson (Donald) of China, TX, Nicole Warwick (Ross) of Vidor, TX; sisters, Evelyn “Lynn” Carlson (Don) of Alamogordo, NM, Katherine “Sue” Soileau (Bob) of Lake Charles, LA, Geanie Stutes (David) of Lafayette, LA; grandchildren, Falyn Thibodeaux, Danielle Young, Morgan Whitaker (Brenan), Jerrod (Kayethel) Dickerson, Sara Dickerson, Reese Warwick, Remington Warwick and Ashley Stutes M.D.; great-grandchildren, Kenly, Rylan, Cohen, Callen, Conway, MaeBre, Leo, Bowen, Judd, Addy, Brooks, and Hanson.
