Luther Martin Lindley, Sr., 84, died Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Baylor Roberts Hospital in Dallas, TX. He was born in Winston County, Alabama, on May 21, 1923, to the late George William Monroe Lindley and Mary Elizabeth Lindley. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Monroe Lindley and Jack Lindley, and one sister Lillie Belle Kennedy. Funeral services with Brother Ed Rawls officiating, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at SilverOaks Baptist Church in Orange, and burial services with Brother Mark Covey officiating, will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Meadows Cemetery on Hwy 389 west of Merryville, LA., under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2007 at SilverOaks Baptist Church in Orange, TX. Luther is survived by his wife of 54 years, Zora Beth Lindley, who he married in Fort Lauderdale, FL., on March 2, 1953, prior to moving to Texas in 1954. He is also survived by six children: Linda Carol Lowrimore of Mesquite, TX., Nena Dowden and her husband Larry of Nederland, TX., Elizabeth Redwine and her husband Eric of Hurst, TX., Luther Lindley, Jr. and his wife Rhonda of Huntsville, TX., Monroe Lindley of Orange, and Shana Gilmore and her husband Larry of Waxahachie, TX., also survived by 12 grandchildren: DeAnn Ennis and her husband Will, Cara Clark and her husband Shawn, Marie Rider and her husband Ray, Katy Corcoran and her husband Andrew, Christopher Lindley and his wife Dana, Kimberly Berry and her husband B.J., Kristen Lindley, Matthew Lindley and his wife Stephanie, Garrett Gilmore, Colton Gilmore, Brittany and Skyla Parker. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren: James, Austin, and Isabell Ennis, Isac, Erica, Trevor, and Timothy Clark, David and Gabriel Rider, Caleb, Courtland and Justin Charanza, Natalie and Brieley Lindley Severns, Luther Martin Lindley, III and Matthew Lindley, Jr. and Brady Lairon Corcoran. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who loved him and enjoyed his many stories of long ago. Luther was in the CCC’s in the late 1930’s, was a Veteran of World War II, and during his life time he worked for the Redstone Arsonal in Huntsville, Alabama, TVA in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and retired from Orange County Precinct 2 after 20 years, during which time he built many of the roads in Orange County, then worked for the City of Orange Street Department for 4 years. His enjoyment of life was deer hunting, fishing, and stock car racing. He loved making barbeque for his family and friends and visited with all of them as often as possible. After retirement he resided on his farm outside of Danville, Alabama, for 18 years where he enjoyed farming and raising vegetables which he was known to give lots away to friends and relatives. Pallbearers will be Christopher Lindley, Matthew Lindley, Will Ennis, Ray Rider, Andrew Corcoran, B.J. Berry, Brad Severns, Garrett Gilmore, Colton Gilmore and Walker Linscomb. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews Harold Davis and Johnny Hyde, Eugene Lindley, Larry Dowden, Larry Gilmore, Eric Redwine, Randall Hightower, Leon Hightower, and Bill Dixon, Jr. Donations can be made to the building fund at SilverOaks Baptist Church, 16460 FM 1442, Orange, TX. 77632.
