Marvin Henry Kluttz

May 23, 1949 — October 11, 2013

Marvin Henry Kluttz entered into eternal rest on October 11, 2013 after a brief fight with cancer. Marvin was born on May 23, 1949 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Frances and Henry Kluttz. Marvin graduated from Beaumont High School in 1967 as salutatorian and received many awards in science and math. Marvin received his BS in Aeronautical Engineering from MIT where he was part of a design team that won second place for a moon 'flivver' that resembles the then unreleased lunar rover final design. During Marvin's engineering career, he worked in both the oilfield and aeronautical industries. Marvin was coauthor of US patent 4,407,183 on subsea equipment, which is still a leading reference for newly issued patents in this field. Marvin also coauthored an OTC paper on underwater welding. In the early 90s, Marvin decided to enter a new career and received a JD from South Texas College of Law in 1995 and became a member of the bar. Marvin had an active mind and enjoyed many activities concerning cars and trucks that varied from calculating transmission optimization to serving with the timing and pit crews for car races, or just rebuilding engines. He loved animals, and they seemed to know it as he spent the last years of his life taking care of many of them. Marvin was also known to love food and friends and enjoyed many happy times with family and friends. Marvin was strong in his faith. Marvin was especially happy about being a part of the church and going on missionary trips to Mexico to help build churches. He also enjoyed the many hours he spent discussing theology with others strong in faith. Marvin is survived by his sisters, Carol Otterstad and Mary Dimataris, and his nieces and nephews, with whom he found that he was always young at heart. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the 6th floor of Methodist West Hospital, MD Anderson Katy, and the 2nd floor of Kindred Hospital Town & Country for their tender care. Visitation will be 10 am, Saturday, October 19 at Memorial Lutheran Church, 5800 Westheimer, Houston, Texas followed by the Funeral Service at 11 am. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Beaumont, Texas at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the building fund at Memorial Lutheran Church - 'Memorial for the People Capital Campaign' - a project of which Marvin was very supportive.
