Mary Ellan Portie, a longtime Vidor resident, passed away June 23, 2015, in Madison, Mississippi, at age 89. She was the youngest daughter of Oceola Carl O’Bryan and Rosa Lee Page O’Bryan. On August 14, 1943, she married Joseph Glen Portie. They were married for 61 years until his death in 2004. She was an active member of St. Andrews (now First United) Methodist Church of Vidor. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Glen. She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Evelyn, her grandchildren Dr. Joseph Glen Portie II and his wife Gwen, Mollie and Madison Portie, great grandchildren Ashtyn, Brinley and Owen Portie, her sister Anna Lee Boothe, sister-in-law Iris Portie Ney, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at Vidor First United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at 2:00pm. Visitation and lunch will be at the church beginning at 12:30pm. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation in her name to The Wounded Warrior Project or the charity of your choice.
