Mattie Hubbard Turner

Mattie H. Turner, 101, of Beaumont formerly of Vidor and Athens, TX., passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in Beaumont. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Vidor. Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband George Henry Turner, in 1977 and her son, Roy Turner, in 2001. Also preceding her in death were here parents and nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Turner was born June 29, 1908, to parents Walter and Willie Bristow Hubbard in Henderson County. She married George Henry Turner, a teacher, on October 21, 1928. They were both active in the education field in Henderson County, and later for many years in Vidor. Mrs. Turner as an Orange County Precinct Chairman and was named Orange County Senior Citizen of the year. She was an employed for many years to run the Vidor unit of the Orange County Senior Citizen meal program. Mrs. Turner is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Larry and Carolyn Turner of Beaumont, a daughter Royce Turner Heickman of Trinidad, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. The family expresses gratitude to Dowlen Oaks, The Clairmont, Dr. Ronald Palong and staff, and the nursing staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Jefferson County Nursing Home, and Harbor Hospice House.
