Ray Shannon, 80, of Vidor died Friday, May 14, 2004 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, TX. Born August 17, 1923 in Taylor, TX., Ray has lived in Vidor since 1939, Ray graduated Vidor High School with the honor of High Ranking Boy in 1941. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force. Stationed in Hethel, England, he was a member of the 389 bomb group of the 8th Air Force, and was awarded the Air Medal, 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, and 3 Bronze Stars. After returning to the states he married Wilma Deanna Singleton on July 17, 1945. Ray graduated from The University of Texas in 1949, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ray was a partner in Deevy and Shannon Consulting Engineers for over 30 years. Ray was a proud member of the Beaumont Lions Club, and a very active member in his church, holding many different leadership positions at First United Methodist Church of Vidor. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great friend to many. Funeral services will be Monday, May 17, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Vidor, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Singleton Cemetery in Vidor, TX. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2004 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Deanna, daughter, Marilyn Shannon of Houston, TX., sister, Florence Fuller of Trophy Club, TX., 2 grandchildren, Claire Shannon-Myers, and Andrew Shannon-Myers, and numerous Nieces and Nephews. Ray is preceded in death by his son Michael Ray Shannon, and his parents Frank and Ethel Shannon. In lieu of flowers, donations and memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Vidor General Debt Fund, 501 North Main, Vidor, Texas 77662, in Memory of Ray Shannon.
