Robert Arthur Smith

Robert A. Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, 61, was welcomed to his heavenly home on Friday, April 9, 2010 at his home in Vidor, TX. Born on September 17, 1948 in Beaumont, TX. Robert was married to Betty Smith the love of his life, on February 8, 1973 in Vidor, TX. He was disability retired from Mead Westvaco in Evadale, TX., and Temple Inland where he worked for 38 years. Robert was a member of First Baptist Church in Vidor, TX., where he served as a Sunday School teacher, R.A. teacher and a member of the orchestra and he deeply loved his church family. Survivors include his wife, Betty; sons Stacy Wayne Smith and wife Vicki of Vidor; Ryan Edward Smith and wife Perri of Baytown, TX., and grandchildren, Jenna Smith, Justin Jackson and Jacob Jackson, Brody Smith and Addison Smith of Baytown, TX., and great grandchild, Evan Jackson. Diana Wilder of Houston. Brother, Richard Smith of Huntsville, AL., sister, Sherry Smith of Vidor, and father Jesse T. Smith of Leesville, he was preceded in death by his mom; Marion Smith. A celebration of Roberts life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Vidor. Although Roberts family and friends are saddened to lose his earthly presence, we are comforted in knowing he was greeted at Heavens gates by his loved ones who have gone before, and is resting peacefully in the arms of GOD. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. (Romans 14:8). The family would like to give a special thanks to Odyssey Hospice for their care of Robert and a special thanks to Rachal Coff and all the nurses.
