Robert Lester Smith

Robert Lester Smith, 69, of Vidor Texas, died peacefully, surrounded by family on December 5th, 2017, at his home in Orange, Texas.

Robert was born April 17, 1948, in Houston, Texas to Jean Grace and Lawrence McMellon.
Robert could accomplish anything he set his mind to. At a very early age, he was building race cars with friends and focusing on his love for basketball. Early in his career he worked for Sears in the sewing department. He would spend the next twenty years promoting music and sales, which would give him the privilege of meeting many wonderful people, most of which became life long friends.

In retirement he would spend time with his grandsons, making sure to impart his wisdom and special skills. He was never short for words and always had a funny story to tell. Ever the optimist, he had a knack for making you feel like the most important person in the room, he would always leave you with a smile. He is preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his son Shannon, his wife Kim and their two sons, Zachary and Max; lifelong partner Vicki Smith; sister Peggy McMellon and cousins Velma Benoit and Mary Thibodeaux and countless friends.


At his request, a celebration of his life with family and friends will be held at his home in Mauriceville Saturday December 9th at 2:00 pm.
