Ruby Lee Walles Waldrep

November 26, 1920 — August 28, 2006

Ruby Lee Walles Waldrep Her last words were prayer and praise. Then, she was carried in the arms of her Lord to her heavenly reward. Ruby Lee Walles Waldrep, age 85, died August 28, 2006, in her home as she desired. She was born November 26, 1920 in the Oila Community to Benjamin Franklin and Mary Adeline Simmons Walles. Mrs Waldrep was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She was predeceased in April 2003 by her husband of 66 years, James Vernon Waldrep. They were known for their hospitality. She and her late husband were instrumental in the founding and establishing of the Orangefield United Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Pastor Archie Griffith, Rev. Henry Stevens, and Pastor A. G. Greech. No invitation was needed, her home and kitchen were open to all. She expected you to eat and always sent you home with something; an afghan, mayhaw jelly, tamales, or a fried pie. She was the best biscuit maker in Orange County and she never measured a thing. She loved to garden and can. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and embroidery. She was still embroidering in her 85th year. She loved her Lord, her husband, and her family. Her love was unconditional. Her greatest desire was that her children would be saved. She loved to go to church, but it just wasn’t a good service unless she ‘shouted’. Even our Sunday school children have learned to “shout like Grandma Ruby”. The children who honor her memory are: Richard Betty Waldrep Austin of Sterling Heights, Michigan, James Barbara Waldrep Miles of Orangefield, James, Jr. “Sonny” Charlotte Austin Waldrep of Vidor, Tommy and Mary Waldrep Wheeler of Vidor, Charles Tammy Vaughn Waldrep of Hemphill, Ronnie Kathy Miles Waldrep of Orangefield, And Timothy Waldrep of Orangefield. There are 23 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are by Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at Memorial Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated on Friday, September 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Church of The Lord Jesus Christ, Interstate 10, Vidor, Texas under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with Rev. John Bullock officiating. Burial will be in The Waldrep Family Cemetery at the Family Homestead on Terry Road. At that time, Ruby and Vernon will once again rest side-by-side.
