Amanda Lee Stockwell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Beaumont, Texas on May 31, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on December 9, 1948, in Beaumont, Amanda was a radiant light whose spirit touched everyone she encountered.
Amanda's life was a tapestry of love, devotion, and unwavering joy. She was the first and only freshman Homecoming Queen in Vidor High School history in 1963, a shining achievement that marked the beginning of her influence in the community. The twirling grace she displayed on the field from 1962 to 1964 grew into a vibrant tapestry of memories filled with laughter and celebration. A proud graduate of the class of 1966, Amanda's early achievements foreshadowed a life well-lived.
Professionally, Amanda served as a secretary for her father's company, WL Smith Home Builders, Classic Chevrolet, Leak Repairs, and Baptist Hospitals, before dedicating herself fully to her family as a devoted homemaker. Her successful career did not define her; rather, it was her loving nature and generous spirit that truly characterized who she was. Those who knew her will always remember her as a fun-loving, beautiful person inside and out — a devoted Christian woman who lived her faith through her kindness and willingness to help others. Amanda was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back, a testament to her selflessness and generosity.
Her passion for life extended into her interests — she treasured her time working in the yard, finding peace and joy amidst the flowers and greenery. Music also played a significant role in her life, and she delighted in listening to the melodies of Vince Gill and Lionel Richie, often sharing those moments of happiness with her loved ones.
Amanda's greatest pride and joy stemmed from her children and grandchildren, whom she adored deeply. She leaves behind her son, Kelly Simmons and his wife Debbie of Beaumont, TX; her daughter, Valerie Kennedy of Vidor, TX; and her grandchildren: Brady Simmons and fiancé Lindsay O'Hare of Lafayette, TN; Brandon Simmons of Port Arthur, TX; Johnathan Simmons and his wife Samantha of Urbandale, IA; Vanessa Croteau and her husband Patrick of Santee, CA; Haley Festa and her husband Nick of Port Arthur, TX; and Mary Jane Kennedy of Vidor, TX, her brothers; Ronnie Smith and Wife Brenda of Vidor, TX, and Jimmy Smith and wife Joy of Vidor, TX. She was also the proud great grandmother of five great-grandchildren.
Amanda is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Leon Stockwell; her son, Micheal Ray Simmons Jr.; her sister, Betty Jo Ames; and her parents, W. L. "Bill" and Amanda Smith.
As we gather to honor Amanda's life, we are reminded of her feisty spirit and her unwavering stance on sharing her thoughts regardless of the outcome. Her legacy is one of love, joy, and kindness. Amanda Lee Stockwell will be dearly missed, but her memory will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
