Betty Van Pelt

Betty Lou Van Pelt, 93, of Vidor, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. Betty was born to Van and Delia Stephenson on October 3, 1929 in Vidor, Texas. She was the youngest of nine children. She was married to Wallace Ray Odom November 10, 1945 until his death in 1967.

Betty was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She retired from Conn’s after working in the office for over 25 years. She loved spending time with family and helping others. During her life she enjoyed country music, square dancing, watching game shows, working jigsaw puzzles, quilting, and cooking. She became most excited when watching her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Betty is survived by her six children, Stephen Ray Odom (Samantha) of Savoy, TX; Roger Elliot Odom of Silsbee, TX; Wyndal Evan Odom (Eugenia) of Vidor, TX; Melanie Brown (Stacey) of Pearland, TX; Lili Graue (Jeff) of Lexington, KY; Diane Lewis of Conroe, TX; and beloved former daughter-in-law, Kathy Odom of Vidor, TX. Betty was known as Maw Maw to her 22 grandchildren, Stephen II, Jory, Spencer, Benjamin, Veronica, Lindy, Keri, Wendi, Kevan, Brandon, Stacey II, Jacob, Cami, Jill, Adam, Bre, Ashley, Josh, Kayla, Bradley, Natalie, and Hailey. She has 40 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Wallace Odom, her parents Van and Delia Stephenson, her eight siblings (Byard, Merlin, Quincy, Baker, Annie, Lavon, Alma, Effie), her daughter-in-law Karen Odom, and grandson Jory Odom.

Please join us in celebrating her life. Visitation will be Friday, April 28, 2023 between 6 pm-8 pm at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. The memorial service will be Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Vidor with interment at Townbluff Cemetery.
