Clarence “C.H.” Herman Brawley, 98, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025, at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
Born in Kingston, OK, Clarence lived a long and remarkable life filled with service, skill, and laughter. He was a longtime resident of Vidor, Texas, before relocating to Sugar Land after Hurricane Harvey to be closer to family.
Clarence proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Alaska, USS Hazelwood, and USS Missouri. Following his military service, he went on to work as a communications electrician for Western Electric, retiring in 1984. One of the highlights of his career was working on President Lyndon B. Johnson’s ranch, where he helped install communications systems.
A man of many talents and interests, Clarence enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and flying—earning his pilot’s license and spending time in the air whenever he could. In his later years, he even taught himself how to use a computer, a testament to his curious mind and determination. He was known far and wide for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. As those who knew him often said, “There’s not a person alive who would say a bad word about him.”
He is survived by his loving children James Lee Brawley and wife Becky of Channelview, TX, Donna Theriot and husband Don of Sugar Land, TX. Ellen Buck and husband Kevin of Granbury, TX, Kayla Brawley of Richmond, TX.
Clarence also leaves behind his sister Helen Brawley Duval and husband R.J. of Modesto, CA; sister-in-law Chris Brawley of Bullard, TX; grandchildren Ryan Brawley, Meg Buck, and Levi Buck and wife Lindsay; and great-grandchildren Roan Brawley, Cole Brawley, Amber Brawley, Osiris Buck, and Gideon Buck. He is also remembered with love by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Georgia Aleene Brawley; his parents Wesley and Rosalee Brawley; and his siblings John, Hershel, Royce, Joyce, Boyd, Don, Melba, Pat, Chock, and Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Clarence’s memory to the American Heart Association.
Clarence Brawley lived a life marked by quiet strength, humor, integrity, and love for his family and country. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
