On January 17, 2022, Edmon Alfred Peveto Jr passed away. Born to Edmon and Martha Lois Deaton Peveto in Sherman, Texas, Ed was 88 years old at the time of his death. He took pride in his status as the oldest living member of his branch of the Peveto family tree. Ed died only two weeks after the death of his wife of 35 years, Gloria Peveto. He was also predeceased by his parents, his brother, Alfred Peveto, his son, Edmon Alfred Peveto III, and his cousin and best friend, Charles Monroe Peveto.
He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954, and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War working in the KMAG Unit. Ed lived and worked all over the world, but remained true to his Southeast Texas roots. He lived in Silsbee at the time of his death.
Always optimistic, Ed was filled with life and laughter. Everyone who knew him can remember his deep and hearty laugh, slapping his knee with delight. In the words of one friend, Ed sought to "find the lighter side of life whenever possible and live in that light as long as possible.” Ed loved cooking, canning, and baking for friends and family and his cinnamon rolls were especially popular.
Although he always projected an easy Southern personality, Ed was brilliant. Ed graduated from Lamar University in 1959 with a degree in Chemistry. He held the patent on the eight valve steam gas chromatograph. But his knowledge reached far beyond the sciences and went deep into every subject, whether it be Volkswagens, computers, or history. He loved to read and remained intellectually curious for his entire life. Ed also loved music, singing with a beautiful tenor voice.
He is survived by his sons, Christopher Peveto, Geoffrey Pivateau, and Mikal Peveto, his daughters, Cara Belle Kelley and Angel Bradley Littlefield, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
