Imogene Busby Ernst, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on July 19, 1937, in Call Junction, Texas, to Malissia Moore Busby and Samuel Walker Busby Jr. She peacefully entered eternal rest on April 26, 2025, surrounded by family.
Imogene grew up in a large, faith-filled family alongside her siblings. She was one of many children and was especially close to her sisters: Sue Hinch, Donese Rose Smith (deceased), Pauline Perritte, Lois Laverne West, Mary Lea Davison (deceased), Willie Elnora Mixon (deceased), Dorothy Rae Guillot (deceased), and Cora Mae Warwick (deceased); and her brothers: Paul Busby (deceased), Dennis Weldon Busby, Harold Clifford Busby, Wesley Alton Busby (deceased), Carl Sylvester Busby (deceased), and Samuel Walker Busby Jr. (S.W.) (deceased).
She married Elmer Lee Ernst Sr. on May 31, 1954. Together, they built a life grounded in service to the Lord, family, and others. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior on January 1, 1959, a decision that shaped her life and touched everyone who knew her. Her celebration of life is centered on Jesus Christ, with the plan of salvation made plain so all may have an opportunity to know Him.
Imogene and Elmer were members of Volunteer Christian Builders, she led a quilting ministry for Buckner Children and Family Services and was known for her "roll ministry" — lovingly delivering homemade rolls to her neighbors after she was no longer able to drive on the streets.
She is preceded in death by her husband Elmer Lee Ernst Sr., her son Ricky Allen Ernst (Anne), her granddaughter Brendi Rae Richardson (Drake), and many beloved siblings and family members.
She is survived by her children: Elmer Lee Ernst Jr. (Selita), Timothy Dean Ernst (Melissa), and Randy Gene Ernst (Patty); her grandchildren: Brad Ernst (Brittany), Kevin Ernst (Callie), Benjamin Ernst (Brittany), Rachal Ernst, Amber Rinehart (Micah), Andrew Ernst (Eileen), Matthew Ernst, Sean Aucoin (Helen), Jennifer Irwin, Harry Irwin (Natalie), and Kristian Shoffner (Luke); and her twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Her life was a testimony to faith, kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her Savior and family. She leaves a legacy that will never be forgotten.
