Irene Scherry Goeddertz, 83, longtime resident of Vidor passed away peacefully at Tiffin House in Georgetown, June 14, 2024.
She was born in Port Arthur, TX July 19, 1940, to the late Mary and George Miguez. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Scherry Sr. and her second husband Roy Goeddertz Sr.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Dave Deering, sons and daughters-in-law, Billy Jr and Bonnie Scherry, Tommy and Paula Scherry, Brian and Tamara Scherry, Mark Scherry, as well as her grandchildren, Danielle Ferguson, Travis Scherry, Erin Veillon, Billy Scherry III, Dillon Scherry, Haydn Scherry, Tyler Scherry and 11 great grandchildren.
Irene grew up in Port Arthur and went to school at Thomas Jefferson High School. She married and started her life in Vidor raising her children and being a dedicated housewife. She combined her passions of helping and encouraging others with her love of the outdoors and staying active. She will be most remembered as a prayer warrior. She was constantly praying for her family and friends. Many people would reach out to her so she could add them to her prayer list.
She was also an incredibly talented artist that loved to paint ceramics, glass, rocks and furniture. On her morning walks at the park, she would often hide her beautiful painted rocks so someone else could find them and enjoy a little treasure. Her family will cherish the painted rocks as well as the many cards that she faithfully sent for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas and other special occasions. Her thoughtfulness will long be remembered.
She was a hard worker and quick to assist anyone who needed help. She visited the sick and volunteered her time at a local thrift shop as well as assisting in making baby quilts for newborns.
Later in life she moved to Georgetown to be closer to her beloved daughter, Terry. She loved the many golf cart rides through the neighborhood with her daughter and son-in-law to see the deer, turkeys, cardinals and hummingbirds. She would take many photos and share those with the world on Facebook.
Irene will be greatly missed. The family finds joy in knowing that when she closed her eyes here on earth, she woke up in the arms of Jesus Christ.
Pallbearers will be Billy Scherry Jr, Tommy Scherry, Brian Scherry, Mark Scherry, James Goeddertz and Dave Deering.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial remembrances be made to Main Street Ministries Women’s Care Center in Vidor 409-769-2418. Irene enjoyed her time volunteering for the Women’s Care Center for several years to help others.
