James A. Wheeler

James A. Wheeler, 80 of Vidor died Monday, March 2, 2009 at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home of Vidor after a lengthy illness. Born February 15, 1929 in Strawn, TX., he was a veteran of the Army Air Force, serving as an airplane and engine mechanic from 1946 to 1948. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. Before moving to Vidor from Abilene, TX., in 1964, he worked as a driller in the west Texas oilfields. He retired as a supervisor from Goodyear Chemical in Beaumont in 1991, after 27 years of service. He was a loyal and faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Vidor. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at First United Methodist Church of Vidor under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park of Vidor. Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Ruth Wheeler, sister Mary Ruth White, two brothers Paul Wheeler and Robert Wheeler. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 59 years Betty Willis Wheeler of Vidor, son Randy Wheeler of Vidor, daughter and son-in-law Eileen and Michael Walker of Pearland, TX., sister Johnnie Traywick of Oklahoma City and brother and sister-in-law Bill and Nelda Wheeler of Copperas Cove, TX., and by a host of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 501 N. Main St., Vidor, Texas 77662.
