James Arthur Cowart Sr., 83, of Vidor, passed away Friday, November 21, 2025, at Vidor Health and Rehab. A longtime resident of Vidor, James proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves and later worked as an operator at PPG. James was born September 26, 1942, in Lufkin, Texas, to Millie Belle and George Arthur Cowart. He was the second of their two sons. James and his brother, Jerry, grew up in Voth near Beaumont and attended French High School. He eventually made Vidor his home after marrying the love of his life, Carolyn, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years. Together, James and Carolyn raised their four children in Vidor while owning and operating ABC Medical. James was deeply dedicated to his family and could always be found attending his children’s—and later his grandchildren’s—events and activities. He had a sharp sense of humor, never met a stranger, and was known for brightening any room with his smile and jokes. A passionate Texas Longhorns football fan, James rarely missed a game and never passed up an opportunity to tease the Texas Aggies. He was almost never seen without his Longhorn cap. James loved listening to music, spending time with his family, deer hunting, and fishing. James is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carolyn Cowart of Vidor, TX; his children Jim Cowart of Fort Worth, TX; Rhonda Kitchen of Houston, TX; Reggie Cowart of Austin, TX; and Dolly Cowart and husband Kris Colquette of Katy, TX; and his seven cherished grandchildren: Madison, Bailey, Reagan, Bode, Eva, Ella, and Lilly. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Vidor Health and Rehab who made the end of his life comfortable, happy and fun. Cadence, Glenda, Janet, Lisa, Lori, Mary S., Mary L., and Tina were especially kind. Their care and concern let his happiness and sense of humor shine to the end. Many thanks to all the friends and neighbors who knew and loved James. A special thank you to Margie Droddy, Mike Porter, and brother-in-law Buddy Dobbs who were special people in his life and brightened his days.
