James Torres Martinez

James Martinez, 89, of Vidor, TX, passed away on Thursday, April 17th, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A longtime resident of Vidor, James was a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was known for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and deep love for his family. James had a lifelong appreciation for the simple things in life—whether it was sitting down to watch a good football game (especially cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys), enjoying an old Western or Mexican movie, or reminiscing about family trips to Mexico, which he always held close to his heart.

He was a hardworking man who believed in doing things right and giving his best, no matter the task. Family meant everything to James, and some of his happiest moments were spent surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

James is survived by his children: David Martinez of Los Angeles, CA, Charles Martinez of Vidor, TX, and Valentina Salas of Vidor, TX; brother Louis Martinez of Beaumont, TX; brother Gilbert Trevino of Beaumont, TX; and sister Maria Hamm of Tallahassee, FL. He also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren: Stephanie Salas, Madeline Salas, Stephen Salas, and Trinity Martinez; and three great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Lydia, and Madison.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Flora Martinez; his parents, John Martinez and Socorro Trevino; sisters Maggie Gonzalez and Elena Gutierrez; and his son-in-law, John Salas.

James’s legacy lives on in the strong bonds he built, the memories he created, and the love he poured into his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
