Janet was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin on July 30, 1931. Her parents were Georgianna and Ashbel Henry Barney. She moved with her family to Orange at the age of 14. She met and married Lindy Taylor and they moved to the Longview area where they had 3 daughters and a son (who died at birth). They owned and operated a local cafe & motel. Janet moved back home to Orange. In 1970 she married Richard Strickland, and they have celebrated 50 years of marriage. Together they owned an alarm response agency. Janet enjoyed quilting with her 3 daughters and niece and had sewing get togethers regularly. She made and gave away many quilts over the years to friends and family. She love Coca Cola memorabilia and collected frogs. If you saw a frog or Coke, you thought of Janet. After being diagnosed with Macular Degeneration and before loosing eyesight, she and her daughters took summer vacations to Grand Canyon, Florida, Dollywood, a cruise and a trip to her childhood home in Wisconsin. Janet loved her fur-babies Toot Toot and Tinkerbell. She was very strong willed and loved her family. Her last 2 years were here in Vidor with her daughter. She attended Turning Point Church and life group for about a year. She looked forward to the annual family get togethers in Vidor, and loved her family. She was very proud to be a Mother, Wife, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great Great Grandma. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard " Rick" Strickland of Shiner, TX, daughters Cynthia and husband Paul Deranger of Vidor, TX, Linda Kay and husband Ray Burch of Orange, TX, and Debra and husband Clifton Gunter of Mauriceville, TX. Her brother Robert "Bob" Barney of New Orleans, LA and sisters Peggy Duncan of Huntsville, TX, Nancy Blanchard of Orange, TX and Alice Harvey of Vidor, TX, 6 grandchildren: Kimberly Mazzagate, Candace Eastman, Coby Burch, Brian Gunter, Michael Gunter, and Daniel Gunter, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Lindy Taylor Jr, parents, Georgianna and Ashbel Henry Barney Sr., brother A. H. "Bud" Barney Jr., Ted Barney and sister Alberta Holden. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Turning Point Church in Vidor. Burial will take place at 3:00 pm Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Circle S Ranch Cemetery in Shiner, TX.
