Jim Charles Lott Jr.

September 10, 1944 — May 30, 2025

Vidor, TX

Jim Charles Lott, Jr., affectionately known as “the Preacher”, was the only child born to the late Rev. Jim Lott and Mildred Lott on September 10, 1944, in Weatherford, TX. After more than 13 years of battling Parkinson’s Disease, on Friday, May 30, 2025, Charles finally won the battle by opening his eyes in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Early Years

Charles was born in Weatherford, but at a young age moved to Cleburne, TX, where he grew up attending Chase Avenue Baptist Church, which his father pastored for many years. When Charles was 6 years old, he trusted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and when he was 9, he surrendered his life to preach the Gospel, preaching his first sermon shortly thereafter.

During his youth and early adult years, Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, and photography. Before entering full-time ministry, he was a journeyman carpenter, an accomplished machinist, and skilled drywall construction worker.

Charles was married to Sarah Clementine Thomas (whom he referred to as his “Angel”) on May 24, 1963, and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage before they said “Fairwell” for a short time.

Ministry

Charles, Sarah and their family served as missionaries in Mexico from 1968 to 1972. From 1972 to 1977, Charles served as interim pastor, Sunday school teacher, and in other children’s ministries. In March of 1977, Charles became the Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Vidor, TX, where he served for more than 48 years until his death.

Beginning in 1980, Charles served his community for more than 10 years as a volunteer fire fighter, Fire Marshal, and eventually Fire Commissioner of the Vidor Volunteer Fire Department.

Throughout his life, Charles influenced the lives of many people who trusted Christ as their personal Savior, were grounded in the sound doctrines of the Word of God, and many who continue to serve the Lord in various other ministries.

Family

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mildred Lott; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Thomas; his adopted sister and brother-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Spencer and her husband, Bryce.

He leaves to cherish fond memories; his wife of 62 years, Sarah Clementine Lott, three children and their spouses; David Lott and wife, Beth, of San Ramon, Peru; Laura Daigle and husband, David, of Bulverde, TX; Amy Dischler and husband, Steve, of Beaumont, TX; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind two brothers: Johnny Lott of Temecula, CA, and Ray Rafols of Weatherford, TX; sister-in-law Louise Raifsnider and husband, Chester, of Glenrose, TX.
