John Joseph Cortez

John Joseph Cortez, 71, of Vidor, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at his residence. A native of Port Arthur, TX, John was a longtime resident of Vidor and a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He retired from Jefferson County as a computer programmer. John loved collecting coins, caring for his neighbors, working out at H & H gym and spending time with his family, especially during visits to family in New Jersey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ellen Cortez of Vidor, TX; daughters Renee Lloyd and husband Kenneth of Vidor, TX, and Laura Cortez Rye and husband Justin of Vidor, TX; siblings Bernardino Cortez Jr. of Jackson Township, NJ, and Rebecca Cortez of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; and grandchildren Sahara Kitchin, Quintin Cortez, and Taylor Rye. John was preceded in death by his son, Justin Cortez.
