Joseph Jesse Geer, Jr.

Joseph Jesse Geer, Jr. of Vidor died unexpectedly at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston on October 27, 2007 from a stroke. He was born to Joseph Jesse Sr. and Margaret Worley Geer in Beaumont on April 3, 1948. He is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Robert Edward Geer. Surviving him is his loving wife of 38 years Shirley Jean, two daughters Maggie Tim O’Connor and Cathy Johnny Chance and grandson’s Jacob O’Connor and Caleb O’Connor. He is also survived by his mother Joyce Geer, sisters Frances Elaine Geer, Eva D. Geer and Renee Geer Leasure. Jesse served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam Conflict from 1968 – 1969. Later while serving on the U.S.S. Princeton he proudly helped recover the crew of Apollo 10. He followed in his father’s footsteps and worked as a pipe fitter-welder out of Local 195 for many years. He retired from Petrocon Engineering after working 11 years as a Senior Designer. Jesse’s interests and hobbies were varied over the years. As a young man he earned a pilots license and enjoyed flying small planes. Jesse was an avid hunter and a member of the Orange Gun Club. He enjoyed camping and he and Shirley loved spending time at Big Bend National Park. One of his last hobbies was restoration of a 1936 Dodge Truck which he salvaged and lovingly worked on until his death. He also enjoyed fishing and walking the beach in search of the perfect sand dollar with his favorite sister Renee. Jesse will be sorely missed by many long time friends especially by his constant companion’s dogs Bruno, Lucky, Gismo, Daisey and Pookie. He was a giving man who helped his friends and neighbors his entire life. In keeping with his giving spirit, Jesse became an organ donor through Life Gift. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday Morning at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home with grave side services to follow. The family will receive visitors after the services in the home of his mother Joyce Geer.
