Karen "Lynne" Dyson

April 4, 1958 — April 11, 2023

Karen “Lynne” Dyson, 65, of Lumberton, TX passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 11, 2023.

She was born to the late Ann Nelson on April 4, 1958, in Dequincy, Louisiana.

Lynne graduated from French School in 1976, and was a Farmers Insurance Agent in Vidor, TX for many years before retiring at the age of 50 years old.

Lynne is survived by two daughters, Nicole Clayton, and her husband Chuck Clayton of Vidor, TX. Crystal Shafer, and her husband Michael Shafer of Vidor, TX. Five grandchildren, all of Vidor, TX. Blake Shafer, his wife Dakotta Shafer and their daughter Hazel Aguilar, Breanna Grace Shafer, Jeffery Clayton, Jacob Clayton, and Ayden Barnes. Her favorite sister, Carol Smith and her husband Bill Smith of Vidor, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her best friend since middle school, Patti Weeks Owens of Lumberton, TX.

She is preceded in death by her little brother Jim Nelson.

Lynne had a love for horses growing up as a child, especially her horse Vera. She talked often of a story of her first “near death” experience with Vera. If you were the person who “goosed” Vera back in the late 1960’s or 1970’s, prepare yourself for a haunting, because although she forgot many things such as her passwords, shoes, and car keys… she did NOT forget about goosing Vera. Also, something about a firecracker. Get ready cousin, David Bruce.

Lynne loved her Friday night dinners at local restaurants with Patti and Steve. She was a generous tipper as well, many waitstaff throughout Southeast Texas will mourn Lynne’s passing.

Before falling ill, Lynne loved painting, and taking care of her container plants. She loved flowers and fruit trees. She also loved taking girl trips, except with her sister Carol. Carol woke up entirely too early, walked too much, and kept a schedule. If you knew Lynne, she was none of those things, her day didn’t start until 1pm.

Lynne and her sister Carol were extremely close over the last 10 years. They bickered about everything, as most siblings do, Carol says they were “chalk and cheese.”

Recently, two birds nested on Lynne’s patio and they were constantly fighting. Naturally, Lynne named them Carol and Lynne.

Lynne was fearless and independent. She was strong willed and stubborn, but those traits defined who she was. She is now sailing on a journey to her favorite shores that we cannot see. We know that she is free from pain and enjoying the salty air, and the peaceful sound of waves that she always loved. Just keep swimming Mom…..

Last words from Lynne, for the complaint department, call her brother in law Bill Smith.

He will take care of it from there.
