Maggie Laverne Yates

Maggie Laverne Yates, 96, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hemphill. Born on October 12, 1928, to Thomas J. and Elmira Coplin. Maggie was a longtime resident of Vidor and a devout Christian whose life was centered around faith, family, and simple joys.

She found happiness in gardening, cooking, fishing—especially catching and eating perch—and most of all, spending cherished moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family dinners held a special place in her heart, as did the time she spent with her grandbabies, who brought her so much joy.

Maggie is survived by her children: Billie F. Yates and wife Hiromi, Peggy Sue Cowart, Nancy K. Yates, and John W. Yates and wife Betty; grandchildren: Casey Morgan, Heather Morgan, and Katie Wolfe; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Morris F. Yates; six siblings; granddaughter Erin NiCole Yates; and son-in-law James Warren Cowart.

In lieu of flowers family has requested donations be made to Sycamore Cemetery to P.O. Box 66 in Burkeville, TX, 75932.
