Mary Helen Gill, 83, of Vidor, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Mid-Jefferson Extended Care in Beaumont surrounded by her family.
A longtime resident of Vidor, Mary was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church in Vidor. She retired as a bus driver with the Vidor Independent School District (VISD) after 33 years of dedicated service. Mary was also a proud member of the Eastern Star and a cancer survivor since 2008. Affectionately known as the "Angel of the Cemetery," she was very patriotic, a devoted servant of the Lord, and enjoyed feeding birds and traveling the country. Mary loved talking with friends and family, and everyone who ever tasted her homemade stuffed chicken-and-dumplings knew they were the best; she called them her labor of love.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Kathy Gill Mathews and her husband Pete of Beaumont, TX, and Sheila Jennings and her husband H.L. of Vidor; her son, Michael Gill of Vidor, TX; and her brother, Marvin Kibodeaux of Orangefield. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Kirk Mathews and his wife Skylyn, Wade Jennings, Michael Miller, Joshua Jennings, Landon Gill, Ivy Lee Gill, Shanna Brucia, and Chasen Brucia; and great-grandchildren: Kannon Mathews, Hailey Jennings, McKenzie Jennings, Avery Mathews, and Noah Jennings.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, L.C. Gill; her parents, Henry Kibodeaux and Opal Katherine Arrington; her aunt, Wanda Godeaux; and her granddaughter, April Jennings.
Mary was known by many names—Mom, Mother-In-Law, Aunt Mary, Granny Mary, Mimi, and Nina—by her loving friends and family.
