Mary Helen Vickers

Mary Helen Egan Vickers was born in Denton TX on September 11, 1936 to Joe Egan and Lola Mae Rankin Egan making Mary Helen a descendant of Revolutionary war hero and early Texas settler, Lt. Robert Ranking. Mary Helen’s mother Lola Mae died the following year of sepsis, leaving Joe with an infant child. As a widower, Joe was unable to care for Mary Helen so Joe’s brother James “Jim” Egan and his wife Julia Riggs Egan took Mary Helen to raise as their own. While Mary Helen was a small child Jim moved the family to Refugio TX where they remained until Mary Helen was in Junior high. In 1942, Jim and Julia added a son, James Don Egan to their family. Soon after, job opportunity took Jim and the family to Sinton TX. While attending High School in Sinton, Mary Helen met and began dating Davis Richard Vickers Sr. . Mary Helen and Davis were popular students with Davis being named Most Handsome of Mary Helen being named Most Popular of their Sr. class. After dating throughout high school and into Collage at Texas A&I in Kingsville, Mary Helen and Davis decided to get married in 1955. After moving back to Sinton, Mary Helen and Davis started their family in 1956 with the birth of their first son Davis Richard, Jr. followed by Valerie three years later. Mary Helen and Davis had their third child, James Don while living in Hugoton Kansas in 1962. In 1965 Mary and Davis moved the family back to TX settling in Vidor where they remained active members of the community and Pine Forest Baptist church. Mary Helen was an avid supporter of Education, serving as a teacher and HS councilor until her retirement. After retirement Mary and Davis continued as Sunday School teachers for many years.


Mary Helen was preceded in death by parents Jim and Julia Egan, her mother and father-in-law Mazine and Davis Vickers, her husband, Davis Richard Vickers Sr. son Davis Richard Vickers Jr and brother James Don Egan.

Mary Helen is survived by her children Valerie Jordan spouse Joseph Jordan and son, James Don Vickers spouse Sandra Vickers. Grand Children Annett Williamson, Davis Richard Vickers III, Daniel Ryan Vickers, Dustin Randall Vickers, Brent Don Vickers and Brooke Ann Brower. Eight Great grand children.
