Melton Jay Broussard

December 24, 1939 — October 21, 2023

Melton "Jay" Broussard, 83, of Vidor, died on Saturday, October 21st, 2023, at the Vidor Health and Rehab Center. Jay was born in Sulphur, Louisiana, and spent most of his life as a cherished resident of Vidor, Texas, as well as enjoying a chapter of his life in Fairbanks, Alaska.


Jay was a dedicated and hardworking individual, retiring from maintenance at Ft. Wainwright after many years of service. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army for 8 years, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his fellow countrymen.


Jay had a passion for life, and he particularly loved spending his free time fishing and working on various carpentry projects. However, his true devotion was to music, which he embraced wholeheartedly. He was a talented musician who played both the piano and the guitar, sharing his love for music with family and friends through the years.


Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. The family will have a celebration of life on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Kim Broussard Howard's house to celebrate Jay's life and bid him a fond farewell. Jay's memory will be cherished by those who survive him, including his loving wife of 61 years, Charlotte Broussard, who remained by his side throughout their remarkable journey together. He is also survived by his daughter, Kim Broussard Howard of Vidor, TX, and his sons, Jerry Broussard of Orange, TX, and David Broussard of Vidor, TX. His sister, Jan Lyons of Vidor, TX, and his grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Kathrine Broussard, Caitlin Good, Erica Howard Larkin, and Jessica Howard & Justin Broussard along with his six great-grandchildren, will continue to hold him in their hearts.


Jay was preceded in death by his son, Richard Broussard, and by his brother, Jody Kent, and sister, Jenna Trouth.
