Rachel Smith, age 76, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. For the past 3.5 years, she was a resident of Brookdale Dowlen Oaks Assisted Living in Beaumont, Texas.
Rachel was born in Kirbyville, Texas, and spent most of her life in Beaumont. She graduated from Forest Park High School in 1966 and soon after moved to Nederland, where she started her own business, Nederland Light and Design. After several successful years, she sold the business and returned to Beaumont.
Rachel remained active in many areas throughout her life. She worked in real estate, lawn care, landscaping, irrigation services, home remodeling, and also served as a traveling notary. She was known for her entrepreneurial spirit, determination, and hands-on approach to every task she took on.
She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Leslie Stampley; her parents, Lewis and Goldie Smith; her brothers, James Smith and William Smith; and her brothers-in-law, E.L. Ellender and Delton Glawson.
She is survived by her brother, Doug Smith of Zavalla; her sisters, Mary Helen Ellender of Beaumont and Dollie Glawson of Kirbyville; her sister-in-law, Anita Smith of Deweyville; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rachel’s strength, independence, and unwavering love for her family will be cherished always.
Cremation services provided by Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.
