Rex Rodney Oates Sr.

Rex "Rodney" Oates Sr., 84, of Vidor, died Sunday, August 6th, 2023, at his residence. He was a longtime resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He grew up in the Methodist faith, finding comfort in his beliefs throughout his life. Rodney graduated from Springhill High School before earning his Bachelor of Arts at Louisiana Tech University. Rex owned T & R Homes in Albuquerque, NM were he learned a deep love for building homes, which became both his passion and profession. He was a skilled craftsman, admired by many for his work. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and golfing, finding solace in the great outdoors. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Tere Oates of Albuquerque, NM, and his children Rex Oates Jr. and wife Natalie of Edmond, OK, and Jennifer Morrill of Spring Branch, TX. He is also survived by his siblings O'Clair Vaughn and husband Buddy of Vidor, Ruth Sanders and husband Kenny of Shreveport, LA, and brother Rankin Oates and wife Donna of Dallas, TX. He leaves behind 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Joe "Wheeler" Oates and his parents Charles and Jeanette Oates. Rex "Rodney" Oates Sr. will be remembered with love by his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
