Smitty grew up on a small family farm in Willow City, ND, in 1964 he joined the U.S. Army where he worked to become a Seargent. While in the army, he met his future brother-in-law, Randall Morris. While they were stationed at Fort Sill, OK, Smitty decided to go home with Randall to Dallas for the weekend. He met Randall’s family and met his future bride, Molly. Once they were discharged from the army, Smitty decided to stay in the Dallas area. And as they say the rest is history. He married Molly and they lived in the Dallas area for a short time, before moving to Orange, TX with Molly’s mother and stepfather (Mae and F.D. [Mitch] Mitchell).
Smitty and Mitch both went to work for the City of Orange in the streets department. A short time later Mitch left and went to a different company with Smitty following. Smitty spent his adult life in the road construction business and finally retired when he was 71. He was able to spend a few years at home with Molly before her passing.
