Roger Babb Cowles, 70, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.
Roger was born in Port Arthur, Texas, and raised in Groves, where he spent much of his life before recently moving to Vidor. He dedicated over 40 years of his career to the Port Arthur News, where his hard work, integrity, and passion for journalism led him to serve as editor. Roger took great pride in his profession and the role he played in informing and serving his community.
A man of deep faith, Roger was a devoted member of Iglesia Bautista de la Fe in Vidor. He served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and was always eager to volunteer whenever the opportunity arose. His servant’s heart and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Roger found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved gardening and farming, spending time outdoors, and caring for his animals, especially his chickens, dogs, and fish. Music was another passion of his, often filling his days and bringing him comfort and happiness.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Celines DelValle Cowles of Vidor, Texas; his children, Benjamin Cowles of Austin, Texas, Katy Cowles of Houston, Texas, Robert Segovia of Austin, Texas, and Jack Cowles of Port Arthur, Texas; and his sisters, Robbie Bethea and husband Richard of Bridge City, Texas, and Regina Kelley and husband Dean of Groves, Texas.
Roger will be remembered for his strong faith, gentle spirit, dedication to his family and community, and the love he poured into everything he did. His legacy will continue to live on through those who were blessed to know him.
