Samuel Edward “Sam” Adams, 83, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on September 28, 2025, at his home in the presence of his loving wife of 65 years, Carolyn Ray McCullar Adams. A devoted man of faith, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Sam leaves behind a legacy of service, generosity, and love.
Sam was born on January 9, 1942, in Woodville, Texas, to Edward Jeff Adams and Ramie Elizabeth Bailey Adams. He grew up in many places, including Woodville and Beaumont, before settling in his beloved Vidor, where he graduated from Vidor High School in 1960.
After graduation, Sam proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for eight years, both stateside and overseas in Okinawa, Japan. He was assigned to the 2851st Air Base Wing as part of the Special Operations group, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and earning a Good Conduct Medal at the time of his honorable discharge. Following his military service, Sam worked for Honeywell while attending Lamar University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. He went on to work as an auditor for Gulf States Utilities and later became a financial advisor with Edward Jones, a career from which he retired in 2009.
Sam was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Vidor for more than 50 years. He served in many roles, including Royal Ambassador leader, Sunday School teacher, and deacon. His commitment to his community extended beyond the church—he worked for many years in Orange County elections as both a poll worker and election judge, and he generously funded numerous scholarships for Vidor ISD students pursuing higher education.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ray McCullar Adams; his sons, Samuel Eugene “Gene” Adams and his wife Kathy, and Gregory Mark Adams and his wife Linda “Bunny”; his grandchildren, Justin Adams, Whitney Flores and her husband Joe, Amber Barkley and her husband Jeremy, and Brian Adams; and his great-grandchildren, Madison Barkley, Ava Barkley, Levi Barkley, Julian Flores, and Jaime Flores.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Jeff Adams and Ramie Elizabeth Bailey Adams.
