Windell Darrell Evans, 85, of Vidor, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
A longtime resident of Vidor, Windell lived a full and hardworking life, earning the love and respect of everyone who knew him.
Windell proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. He was baptized in the Baptist church and held his faith close to his heart.
He dedicated many years of service to the Orange County Drainage District as a highly skilled heavy equipment operator. His craftsmanship extended beyond machinery—he was also a talented woodworker whose skill with his hands was admired by many.
An avid outdoorsman, Windell had a deep love for fishing and hunting, and he was as comfortable on the water as he was in the woods. He won several fishing tournaments over the years and even helped sponsor the Boys’ Haven Fishing Tournament, sharing his passion with the next generation. He was a natural gardener and a devoted animal lover, always tending to his pets and plants with great care.
Above all, Windell was a hardworking man, a great provider, and a devoted husband who loved his wife, Charlene Evans, dearly. The two shared 63 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with laughter, love, and countless friendships.
He is survived by his loving wife Charlene Evans; his daughter Windy Dee Evans; his son John Wayne Evans; his brother Danny Evans; and his beloved nieces and nephews Darren, Annetta, Jessica, Jennifer, Chris, and Tiffani.
Windell was preceded in death by his brother Darrell Evans.
Windell’s legacy of service, hard work, love for the outdoors, and devotion to family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
